Why Game Music Tech Matters

Writing great music is only part of being a modern game composer.

As an AAA game composer and music designer, I use Wwise and Unreal Engine every day. These aren't just technical tools—they're an essential part of how modern game music is created and implemented. Studios increasingly seek composers who understand both music and technology, and many AAA positions list implementation skills as preferred or required qualifications.

More importantly, implementation changes the way you compose. It teaches you to think interactively, design music that responds to gameplay, and create more immersive experiences for players. In my view, technical implementation isn't separate from composition—it's an essential part of becoming a modern game composer.

What You'll Learn

Interactive Music Fundamentals

  • Learn the Wwise Interactive Music Hierarchy and how modern game music systems are organized.

  • Build adaptive music using vertical layering, state switching, and dynamic mixing techniques.

  • Create seamless musical transitions using Wwise switch containers, playlists, and segments.

Game Audio Technology

  • Develop a practical understanding of Unreal Engine 5.

  • Learn Blueprint scripting fundamentals for composers and audio professionals.

  • Build music systems that respond dynamically to gameplay events and player actions.

Real-World Project Experience

  • Implement your own music into playable game projects using professional workflows.

  • Design, build, and test interactive music systems in real game development environments.

  • Develop portfolio-ready technical skills and example projects that are increasingly valued by indie and AAA studios alike.

What Students Have to Say

"In already the small amount of time that I've learned under Peter, I feel like I've learned so much. You won't find a more diligent, gracious, patient, and hardworking teacher that takes time to be as thorough and precise as him. He communicates clearly, sets realistic expectations, and gives so much encouragement at every step of the way. Most importantly, he will devotedly go out of his way to make sure that your needs as a student are met, and goes above and beyond to help in any way he can in order to help you find success."
